A meeting of the executive Committee takes place in Geevagh N.S. on wed. 6thFeb at 8pm.As there are currently a number of events in the pipeline and some issues which require our consideration, a full turnout would be appreciated On Wed. evening last a large turnout witnessed the launch of our Club’s’ Facebook Page’. The event was led by project coordinator Brian Farrell and formally launched by club Chairperson, Tom Lavin. Ciara Reilly was out of the blocks quickly to become the first ' official friend’. The site contains advice on ‘Facebook’ etiquette as well as links to sites which deal with internet safety and other related issues. This facility will enable members and ‘friends’ to stay in touch with club activities on a daily basis.
Medal presentations to Boys u-12’s, Girls u-14 and u-16 footballers took place during the week. The presentation was made by Sligo’s Ladies Football Captain Eithne Flanagan assisted by star player Olivia Codd and prominent members of our own senior ladies team. The Cumann na mBunscol/ Sligo I.T. student coaching scheme is due to start shortly. Now in its tenth year, the scheme will see two qualified coaches working in Geevagh and Kilmactranny National schools for a 10 week period. Our Annual Dinner Dance takes place in Kilronan Castle on Saturday March 2nd.Tickets are available from members of the executive. This is the last chance to purchase tickets for “For Club and County" by Seamus O’ Rourke. The production rolls into town this week and will be staged in the Resource Centre @ 8pm on Feb 8th. Tickets @ 10 EURO can be purchased from members of the executive. Registration for the coming year took place in the Resource Centre on Fri.last. If you were unable to attend on the night and intend using the club facilities over the coming season please contact a member of the executive. All players not registered must do so immediately. This weeks Laoch na Seachtaine is Megan Davey. The Coolamoneen cailin was outstanding in a recent football challenge against St Claire’s Manorhamilton and followed this up with a solid performance in the national schools hurling / camogie League.

The Geevagh GAA Club would like to pay tribute to the late Kevin Heffernan who died during the week. “Heffo” fundamentally revolutionised Gaelic football and was responsible for a huge surge in its popularity. Geevagh Notes Gevagh N.S. made a winning start to 2013 when they hosted Manorhamilton N.S. for football and hurling challenges on Thursday last. Four keenly contested games ensued with the Geevagh youngsters emerging victorious on all four occasions Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Pat Hughes and Denis O’Rourke. Pat suffered a fracture to his cheek bone while Dennis is nursing a fracture to a bone in his foot. Both players are expected to be out of competitive action for four to six weeks. Senior football training is now in full swing. With the new season just around the corner the management team are looking forward to a good response from all panellists. Geevagh GAA club are presenting "For Club and County" a new play by Seamus O’ Rourke in the Resource Centre @ 8pm on Feb 8th. Tickets @ 10 EURO can be purchased from members of the executive. Well done to Shane, Kenneth, Pat and the Sligo Senior footballers who qualified for the F.B.D. final by beating Galway in Enniscrone on Sunday last. Please take note that the wearing of mouth guards is now compulsory for all underage boys and highly recommended for all players. Laoch na Seachtane: Our first laoch na seachtaine for 2013 is Keith O Reilly. Keith was outstanding for Geevagh N.S. in both football and hurling games against Manorhamilton when he dominated both matches from the pivotal centre half back position. Ceist na Seachtaine: Name the 1975 Connaught Senior Championship medal holder who lined out for Geevagh in the late 70’s and early 80’s (answer next week) The club extends deepest sympathy to the Conlon Family, Geevagh on the death of Brigid Anne Conlon, the Conlon Family, Barroe, on the death of Lily Conlon and the Quinn Family, Drumnee on the death of Attracta Quinn. A well attended meeting of Geevagh Gaa Club Executive committee took place on Wednesday last. Registrarion for the coming season takes place in the Resourse Centre @ 8pm on Friday Feb. 1st. All players,under age as well as adults who wish to participate in Club activities are asked to register on the night. Team managers will be instructed not to field unregistered players once the season gets underway. Underage players should take note of the GAA directive regarding the wearing of mouthguards. As and from Jan. 1st the wearing of mouth guards is cumpulsory for all underage boys games. "For Club and County" a hillarious new play by Seamus O Rourke will be performed in the Resource Centre @ 8pm on Feb 8th. Tickets are now available from members of the executive. Plans are underway to launch a club "Facebook" page in the coming weeks. This should provide us with an exciting new way of keeping in touch with club activities and club members at home and abroad.However initiatives such as this can be misused. The club is currently drawing up a policy in this regard and plans to host an information evening on the subject. Parents,particularly those of underage children are advised to attend. Thank you to all members who attended the Club’s AGM on Wednesday 5th December 2012. There are still a number of positions to be filled, including Vice Chairperson, Treasurer, and managers for the ladies and mens senior teams. The executive hope to fill these positions in the coming weeks. Geevagh GAA Club Notes Week Commencing 18th November 2012 The Club’s AGM will take place on Wednesday December 5th 2012 at 8pm in the Resource Centre. All members are invited, and are encouraged to attend. Congratulations to Senior Team members Shane Mc Manus and Pat Hughes on being nominated for the Club All Star awards. The winners will be announced at a function in the Radisson Hotel Sligo on Friday 23rd November.

The last competitive club game for 2012 was the Minor Girls final against St Mary’s, which took place on Saturday last. Our girls put in a strong performance but unfortunately it was not enough to get them over the line, and they lost by the narrow margin of just 2 points. The Team on the day were Sinead Mc Tiernan, Rebecca Phelan, Ciara Glynn, Lorraine O’Reilly, Nicola O’Reilly, Denise Conlon, Claire Conlon,Emma Byrne, Niamh Mohan, Aisling Mohan, Sarah Reynolds, Niamh Reynolds, Catherine Mulvanney, Andrea Lavin, Hannah Sweeney, Kristen O’Reilly, Ciara O’Reilly, Eimear Mulvey,Aisling Sweeney,Sinead Mohan, Yvonne Mc Donagh, & Norah O’Reilly. Mentors: TJ Reynolds, Josephine Mulvanney, Seamus Mc Donagh & Louise Lavin. The results of the 220 Club Draw for November 2012 are as follows: 1st prize €150, John & Cait Jordan, 2nd prize €100, Eimhear Hargadon, 3rd prize €50, Pat & Betty Hughes, and 4th prize €50, Michael Lavin & Tommy Lavin. Geevagh Club Notes 4th November 2012 Well done to first time managers Rachel Lavin and Elaine O'Reilly and the U14 girls who won the U14C championship on Saturday, they beat CT Gaels in extra time to win. Team on duty was Aisling Sweeney, Rebecca Brehony, Rachel Gaffney, Deborah Corcoran, Aoife O'Reilly, Yvonne McDonagh, Laura Foley, Rebecca Phelan, Marie Mc Donagh, Jessica Brehony, Nora O'Reilly, Shauna Cullen, Aoife Conlon, Sinéad Mohan, Kristy Cullen, Ciara Fallon, Lorraine Mc Donagh, Ciara Cullen, and Emer McDonagh.
Hard luck to the U16 girls who were defeated by St Nathys in the “A” championship final last Monday week.
Minor girls’ championship final against St. Marys is on next Saturday, venue and time will be decided during the week.
